This week we're making it about Maduro. The United States, along with other world powers, recognized Juan Guaidó as the interim president of Venezuela. Should the world be getting involved in Venezuela's politics? We speak to our Venezuelan voice and find out if the US is overstepping boundaries by intervening. Then, we speak to our voice in Pakistan about the current round of peace talks between the US and AfPak leaders. What will happen if the peace talks are a "success"? Will this mean the end of the war or will it inflame tensions in the region? Finally, on Change is Hard, CNN gets the drop on the Roger Stone arrest and pats themselves on the back for their journalisming. Then, big layoffs at BuzzFeed and Huffington Post demonstrate one of our guiding principals: if everyone's a journalist, nobody is a journalist.
This week we're headed back to the Korean peninsula where Trump and Kim are set to sit down once again. But why have a sit down when so little has been done since the last meeting? We check in with our resident missile defense expert Riki Ellison to find out if a new meeting will be a benefit in the quest for a denuclearized North Korea. Then we're headed to Syria where ISIS was able to launch a deadly attack against US forces. Was this a response to the Trump administration pulling out of the area? We'll check in with Radwan, our Middle Eastern voice, and find out what he thinks the reason for the attack was and if the US will stay in the region. And finally, in our Global Media Spotlight, we're giving you the best a man can get as the Gillette social justice ad was seen around around the world. Tune in to hear reactions from folks in foreign media.
This week we're back in Syria, or not. We'll speak to Oguz in Istanbul about the failed meeting between Bolton and Erdogan. Is the US really leaving Syria? What will happen to the Kurdish fighters in Syria if the US does leave? Then we're headed to Britain where it's Theresa May is failing to deliver Brexit. We'll speak to Mark in Europe and find out why May be out of a job sooner than later.
This week, President Trump flipped his stance on leaving Syria. Last week we questioned whether or not the president was truly planning to leave. Just this morning, national security advisor John Bolton said there will be no withdrawal without a promise from Turkey not to attack the Kurds. We'll head around the region and get reactions from several voices about the recent change of heart. Then we're off to Britain where the queen's military is now recruiting social justice warriors. You read that right, yes they've made a new ad campaign targeting kids who still live in mom's basement and think playing video games is a career choice. You won't want to miss this global media spotlight. Finally, on Change Is Hard, we find out if CNN's head of standards and practices is doing her job. We've had a couple of on-air cursing events this week. One from Lindsey Graham on CNN and another from Representative Tlaib at a public event. Two different incidents, both demonstrate the foundations of CIH.
